Welcome letter from Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity

Build-a-Thon
Participants,
On behalf of
Cedar Valley Habitat's staff, Board of Directors, partner families and volunteers, I want to sincerely thank you for committing to be a participant in the 2010 AmeriCorps
Build-a-Thon in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For the next five days, you will be part of a very special community that is
engaged in some truly remarkable rebuilding work. We are so grateful for your willingness to join us in that.
We are honored by your presence and thrilled to be the host affiliate for the AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon for the second consecutive year. In one week last year, Build-a-Thon participants completed much
of the work on 20 homes
- a number that represented one-fourth of our affiliate's total production over its 20-year history! for a community that lost so much affordable housing in the 2008 flood, this was the kind of service and leadership that was critical to recovery.
I am pleased to tell you that all 20 of last year's families have closed on their homes, moved in and begun an exciting new chapter in their lives as homeowners. This year, as we begin work with nearly two dozen new
families, we are reminded of the tremendous ability we have to help change lives through the work of Habitat for Humanity.
As you are undoubtedly aware, this year's work includes not only new home construction, but also home rehabilitation in flood-impacted neighborhoods and our affiliate's launch of
A Brush
with
Kindness in Cedar Rapids' Wellington Heights neighborhood. We are particularly grateful to all of our key community partners and sponsors, who have helped to make this ambitious set of projects possible.
It has been an honor and a privilege to work again with my colleagues at Habitat for Humanity International and Habitat for Humanity of Iowa to pull off this huge event. To all of you, who fuel the work of this most powerful ministry, thank you for helping to provide hope to
families, and a community, that continue to be in great need of it.
