Welcome letter from the City of Cedar Rapids
Dear
AmeriCorps
Volunteers:
Welcome back! We are excited to have your organization and volunteers returning to Cedar Rapids for what promises to be another landmark event for our community. you are helping us make great progress in our flood recovery efforts.
Cedar Rapids has been reinvesting in housing, businesses and neighborhoods since the flood of 2008. we have rehabilitated 630 homes through the JumpStart housing Program and more than 230 single-family units are scheduled to be complete by the end of 2010. a new program will create an additional 200 single-family units by 2011 (Single Family New Construction Program) with 321 affordable multi-family housing units planned. Additionally, affordable housing plans have started for the Oakhill Jackson Brickstones Development, Cedar View Development and Cedar Pond Development throughout our city. Overall, $30 million has been committed to flood-impacted housing in our community.
Your involvement in the Build-a-Thon will help with the continuing rehabilitation and neighborhood revitalization efforts in the most flood impacted neighborhoods throughout our community.
We welcome your participation in this terrific event, and with to thank you in advance for you leadership and service to our community as we continue to rebuild stronger and better than ever.
Sincerely,
Ron J.
Corbett,
