Thanks to everyone who participated
in the 2009 Build-a-Thon!
More than 500 Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps State and
National and AmeriCorps VISTA members and alumni helped
to build the 20 homes, June 14-20, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
as part of the annual Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps
Build-a-Thon. Work continued on the homes throughout the
summer and nearly all of our families are moved into
their new homes as of the end of October.

Major sponsors of the Build-a-Thon included the City of
Cedar Rapids, AEGON, Kurt Warner First Things First
Foundation, Corporation for National and Community
Service and Clarion Hotel. NFL quarterback Kurt Warner
and his wife, Brenda, both Iowa natives, traveled to
Cedar Rapids in June to volunteer for the build on
behalf of their First Things First Foundation. Warner
raised $650,000 for the project. In addition, Trees
Forever is partnering with Habitat for the Cedar Rapids
NeighborWoods Tree Planting, sponsored by The Home Depot
Foundation and Alliant Energy. |

By the winter of 2007, Habitat volunteers and donors had created homebuyer opportunities for 58 families in Cedar Rapids, Marion and Benton County. Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity has participated in new-home builds, such as Genesis Park and the Build-a-thon, as well as several home rehabilitations throughout the Marion/Cedar Rapids area. In total, Habitat of Iowa has built more than 500 homes.
