Thanks to everyone who participated
in the 2009 and 2010 AmeriCorps Build-a-Thons!
Here are just a few
highlights from
Cedar Valley
Habitat's 20 year history:
-
From 1988 through 2008, we served 58 families, primarily through the new construction of new single family homes and a handful of home rehabilitations.
-
We hosted the 2009 and 2010 AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon events with Habitat for Humanity International, hosting 900 AmeriCorps members for a total of two weeks and working on 43 different projects.
-
Since 2009, we have served 43 additional families by building 35 new homes and completing 8 A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) exterior painting and repair projects in Wellington Heights.
-
We are on-pace to complete our 100th new or rehabilitated home this year!
Major sponsors of the 2009 and 2010 Build-a-Thons included the City of
Cedar Rapids, AEGON, Kurt Warner First Things First
Foundation, Corporation for National and Community
Service and Clarion Hotel. Trees
Forever has partnered with Habitat for the Cedar Rapids
NeighborWoods Tree Planting, sponsored by The Home Depot
Foundation and Alliant Energy.
NFL quarterback Kurt Warner
and his wife, Brenda, both Iowa natives, traveled to
Cedar Rapids to volunteer for the build on behalf of
their First Things First Foundation in 2009 and
2010. Warner raised $650,000 for the project in
2009. In 2010, CVHFH hosted "The First Things
First Kurt Warner Challenge." As part of the
call to action by the Foundation, local
businesses partnered with Habitat to sponsor a
matching $100,000 for the "Warner" house. |

Our single-largest development project to date is the Genesis Park neighborhood, just off of 12th Avenue SE, where we completed our 25th home in 2009.
The Genesis Park development kick-off began in the Oak
Hill area of Cedar Rapids.
