Building in Guatemala

 In Global Impact

Dear friends and families of Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial,

In 5 short days, a group of 11 of us will be heading to Guatemala to help build a home for a deserving family. For about half of us, it will be the first time, but for all of us it will be our first build in Guatemala. A new place with some new faces and some veteran faces will make for a lot of wonderful memories and life changing experiences. Regardless of our level of experience with Global Village trips, it will be a time to cherish as we make new friends in a new country as well as strengthen the friendships we have amongst our group, and learn about a whole different culture at the same time. We have a wonderful mix of experience and ages, and I am so excited to see how it all gels together to help improve the lives of the Guatemalan community we will be serving.

We will be in Quetzaltenango, which is about 4 hours west of Guatemala City, in the mountains. The weather looks to be about 60-70° better than it is here in the Midwest. We have a couple young ladies joining us from California, so they are used to that kind of weather, but those of us from Iowa and Minnesota are ready for ANYTHING that is NOT snow! We will keep you updated on our progress on this blog so keep watching for daily postings and photos. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and as you watch the progress of the home building, consider joining us on one of our future trips, or perhaps volunteer here in the USA in your own communities. No matter what, I can promise you one thing for sure…it will be an experience you will never forget.

I am thrilled and humbled to be the leader of this group and will do all I can to ensure safe travels both coming and going and that we all experience the joy of doing this work on behalf of Thrivent Builds Worldwide and Habitat for Humanity. Being the senior member of the group, I am not afraid to play the mom card, so team…beware!

¡Haste luego!
