Alliant Energy has announced a plan to build a community solar garden in Cedar Rapids, which will allow the company’s electric customers to benefit from solar power without installing solar panels on their own property. As part of this initiative, Alliant has pledged to donate up to $400,000 in solar blocks from the garden to Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity homeowners. These solar blocks will provide monthly credits on Habitat homeowners’ energy bills over the course of their Habitat mortgages, bringing the total donation to over $1 million.
