One Neighborhood! One Week! One Goal!

Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity, professional builders, contractors and suppliers from the Greater Cedar Rapids Housing & Building Association are joining hands for the 2020 Home Builders Blitz in Cedar Rapids! This June 1-5, the two organizations will come together for the fifth time to build three homes in five days and transform the Oakhill Jackson Neighborhood on the southeast side of Cedar Rapids.

“We’re so excited to break ground for the 2020 Home Builders Blitz,” says Kelly Lamb, executive director of CVHFH. “These builds will provide affordable housing for three Cedar Rapids families and revitalize a core neighborhood. We couldn’t do this without the support of the GCRHBA and the amazing community of lead builders, suppliers, and laborers.”

“We are proud to be a part of the fifth Home Builders Blitz in Cedar Rapids,” shared executive officer Melissa Olson of GCRHBA. “Our members believe in providing homeownership and making a difference in the lives of local Habitat families. We are especially excited to be part of transforming the Oakhill Jackson Neighborhood!”

This is the fifth Home Builders Blitz effort in Greater Cedar Rapids, with CVHFH and the GCRHBA previously completing a total of eleven homes in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. Home Builders Blitz homes are constructed, from the ground up, in just five days to help build strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with low-income families seeking affordable housing. Other key partners for the project are the City of Cedar Rapids, Transamerica, Housing Fund for Linn County, DuPont, and Ohnward Bank & Trust.
